    CC please...

Using the basic three light setup as taught in class, I have produced this photo.

While the client likes it very much, I have a concern about the shadow on her right side between the hair, her cheek, and the throat.  How can I tuck some light into that area without overexposing?

Any suggestions on how to mitigate this?  I tried a reflector, but it didn't seem to get any better.

    Thanks in advance.

It's tough to tell exactly how the light was set up, but in this situation I would normally put a (4th) light directly over the camera on a boom.  I'd use an umbrella to soften the light and then make sure that the light isn't overpowering, just enough to fill the shadows.

A reflector can work too, you just have to make sure you get it close enough to the subject.  Adding a cute dog can make this a bit tricky tough. :)

ok, well, I'm a bit late with a reply....

sorry for that, but- having looked at the photo, the simplest way to remove that shadow on her right would have been to have your subject push her hair behind her shoulder as that seems to be the cause. In order to leave her hair as-is and get rid of the shadow, then as Mark said, you would have needed an additional light either behind or over the camera or some fill from a reflector (which would probably have distracted that cute little dog).

That said, happy client = good job. :)
